Betwixt and Between – Reimagining Residual Urban Spaces in Loughborough Junction

15 June 2024

12:00 -16:00

'Spaces left over after planning' or 'SLOAPs' is a term used to describe ground and spaces in our towns and cities that are not really planned at all in the strict sense, just left-over land. Building on the interest generated by our recent podcast ‘Spot the SLOAPs’, this workshop will help participants learn about the value of such spaces and will invite them to creatively reimagine a number of nearby spaces as multi-functional, productive and welcoming climate-resilient landscapes.

Hosted at the newly opened LJ Works in Loughborough Junction, we will explore a range of 'left over' residual spaces in between the tangle of buildings and viaducts in the immediate vicinity.

How can reimagine these residual spaces, and creatively retrofit them to help locals and visitors reconnect with each other in nature, and feel proud of their neighbourhood, whilst doing their bit for the planet?

Whether you live locally or are interested in the nature of these residual spaces in cities generally, join us for this hybrid event, part ‘walkshop’, part workshop, where attendees will be guided through a range of activities to broaden their understanding of the value of these spaces, reframing them for improved environmental performance, social value and local place identity.
