These guided walks by the People's Museum Somers Town will introduce the radical histories of social housing and activism in a contested London neighbourhood. The promise of these walks is exposure to the stains of dense historical layering – traces of speculators, Romantics, Anarchists, reformers – amid scandalous changes, happening before your eyes, in a place long overlooked and now obliterable.
We hope you will use these walks to reflect on the links between social housing, communities, urban space and radical politics today.
The walks will run as follows and set off and finish at the People's Museum Somers Town:
12-1pm: Emergences & Disappearances: Somers Town, Its Body of History (Prof Esther Leslie)
1-2pm: The Model Estate, Oakshott Court (Fabian Watkinson, Camden Tour Guide)
2-3pm: Bayes Heritage Trail: The Fairytale Estates (Steve McCarthy, Co-Director, People's Museum Somers Town)
3-4pm: Ossulston Estate: echoes of Karl Marx Hof (Diana Foster, Director, People's Museum Somers Town)
Standard tickets are £8, and Concessions are available for just £5 (Email info@aspaceforus.club to check availability criteria)
