Five Suburban Cemeteries of London

09 June 2024

10:30 -14:30

A 5.5mile guided stroll through the quaint paths and woods of North London’s picturesque Hampstead Garden Suburb connecting five very different burial grounds. It reimagines these forgotten spaces of the dead as a retreat from the ordinary urban landscape. Bringing to life the various architectural features of this unique designed landscape in a recreational walk; it will include memorials of the famous and interesting and breaks to look at historical photographs along the way.

Starting from Golders Green Library, the route takes Golders Green Crematorium, Hoop Lane Jewish Cemeteries, Central Square in the Hampstead Garden Suburb, East Finchley Cemetery, Holy Trinity Graveyard and Camden & Islington Cemetery before finishing at East Finchley Library for a light lunch.

The walk is guided by Hugh Petrie of the London Borough Barnet Local Studies collection. Booking is essential, the walk includes a light lunch and sensible footwear is recommended.
