*Event postponed to 10 July due to sickness*
Join queer architect and artist Martha Summers at Bishopsgate Institute archives, to speed-date LGBTQ+ third spaces of times gone by. We will sit down together, and get to know the community cafes, bookshops, nightclubs, organising spaces and more, that have come and gone throughout London's history, hopefully finding your perfect match!
“Looking for a Third…Space” draws on responses from ‘Continuous Cruising”, a workshop held earlier this year, where participants were asked to reflect on the unmoored nature of today’s dyke/queer spaces. Many wondered if perhaps the only thing that can be truly “permanent” about our spaces is an enduring radical spirit, others expressed a desire to feel more intimately connected to our recent cultural past. “Looking for a Third…Space” answers this call! In a camp, playful workshop we will visualise our spatial history, bringing long gone spaces momentarily back to life, and begin to reimagine the possibilities of dyke and LGBTQ+ spaces in the here and now.
The event will primarily focus around spaces for those in the dyke, lesbian, bisexual, trans, intersex, a-gender and non-binary communities.
