For thousands of Londoners experiencing homelessness, the city itself is their home. This interactive workshop invites guests to reconsider the politics embedded in our built environment.
We’ll spotlight hostile architecture, exploring its impact on the spatial experience of living for the vulnerably housed, and the ‘designing out’ of marginalised identities from public space. Considering how those experiencing homelessness must navigate public space in alternate ways, the prevailing ‘inside’ vs ‘outside’ distinction from a design perspective will be challenged.
Critically engaging with topics including hostile architecture, homelessness, social deviance, and inclusive design, we invite our audience to reimagine London into a city that is more accessible to those who have historically been ‘designed-out’.
Facilitated by Unseen Tours, a not-for-profit social enterprise supporting vulnerably housed individuals to develop, curate and lead guided walks through different neighbourhoods of London, this workshop is an invitation to see the city from an untold perspective, and dare to imagine otherwise.
This is a two-hour interactive workshop, wheelchair accessible, from 3-5pm.
