Rescue Mission: Transforming Architectural Heritage for the Modern Age

20 June 2024

19:00 -21:30

It’s time to take demolition off the table, for the good of the climate and our communities. In this session, we’ll explore how 20th-century architecture is being rescued from neglect through the power of adaptive reuse and placemaking.

Our expert panel will discuss how contemporary approaches to reuse and meanwhile use, can embrace a building’s character, transform spaces for the modern age, save structures and revitalise communities. We’ll delve into the innovative design work of CHYBIK + KRISTOF, a leading Czech studio, as well as those breathing new life into forgotten buildings across the UK and Europe.

Join us for a lively conversation about the future of architectural heritage and be inspired to reimagine a more sustainable and characterful built environment. With Catherine Croft, Director of the Twentieth Century Society, Ondřej Chybik, co-founder of CHYBIK+KRISTOF, Sam Cotton, Head of Asset Management at Battersea Power Station Development Company, and Petra Marko, placemaking expert and the Chief Executive at the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava. Chaired by Will Hurst, Managing Editor of The Architects‘ Journal.

Organized by the Czech Centre in collaboration with the CHYBIK + KRISTOF ARCHITECTS Ltd and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic.
