Focusing on food is key to better cities. Yet, the design of our cities today is invisible to the ways we get our food. Meet SOW.
SOW is a giant female pig that lives in the digital realm and appears in Augmented Reality (AR) through our smartphones in locations linked to industrial pork production across England. SOW makes the invisible spaces of agribusiness power visible in the city of London and invites us to reflect on our role in the food system and re-imagine its more hopeful futures.
During our walking workshop we will visit two of them – DEFRA in Westminster and Barclays Tower in Canary Wharf. Come along, whether you are actively involved in city-making or simply interested in shaping the future of our city.
Bring your phone, an umbrella and some hopeful thoughts for a creative reflection.
- How might architecture and urban design contribute to reforming our broken food system?
- What kind of a landscape do we need for human and more-than-human flourishing?
Be prepared to hop on the Jubilee line as we move between the two hubs of financial and political power.
And remember: similar to the industrial meat industry, SOW is only visible if you choose to look…
The workshop will be led by SOW creators – Naho Matsuda and Kat Gladkova.
