Explore the three churches in the Watling Avenue area of Burnt Oak: St Alphage, Annunciation, and International Gospel Church.
All three have architectural features and interiors of interest, and were cornerstones of the Watling Estate when it was built in the 1920s for a new community, much of which was transplanted from the slums of inner London to these new ‘homes for heroes’ after the Great War.
Today these churches are hives of activity for a new generation.
A draw for active congregations, each is also a focus for community spirit – from hosting social and exercise classes, to lunch clubs, food banks and warm hubs.
Each supports diverse communities, including those whose grandparents moved here a century ago, rubbing shoulders with a multi-cultural population who have made Burnt Oak their new home, often very recently.
Join us to uncover local 'ecology' with a 20 minute tour and talk at each Church.
