Whitechapel & Spitalfields – Reimagined…

03 June 2024

14:00 -16:00

Reimagine the Roman Wall and bastions, the wasteland after the Romans left, the monasteries and convents and the waves of people who made a life in this part of the city. Reimagine, as we move between the City of London and Tower Hamlets how the financial centre is creeping eastwards and think of the good and bad things this might bring.

In this walk, we will explore the Eastern City of London, Whitechapel and Spitafields looking at today's buildings and spaces. We will look at remnants of the past and imagine how the area existed in previous years and look at the changes and what might happen in the future (Pictured here is me outside an old weavers house now a private residence!) We will explore Whitechapel and Spitafields looking at today's buildings and spaces including Petticoat Lane and Brick Lane, look at remnants of the past and imagine how the area existed in previous years and look at the changes and what might happen in the future.

Our walk will range from Roman Ruins to Street Art and creative new open spaces and will review the panorama and diversity of cultures and communities in the area. There will also be time to taste some of the delicious foods on offer and admire some beautiful buildings and works of art!
